The Sociology Department offers its students the opportunity to pursue a programme in general sociology or opt for a concentration. A student who wishes to pursue a general programme will read core courses plus any other electives of the student’s choice.

A student who opts for a concentration, will read all core courses and in addition, 3 to 5-course clusters (9 to 15 credits) that may be departmental, or interdisciplinary. The purpose of the concentration is to emphasise the interconnectedness of disciplines, or to provide an opportunity to pursue special academic or pre-professional interests.

The concentrations are as follows:
Demography
Gender Studies
Development Studies
Work, Organisations and Labour Markets
